Disadvantages Some people see rainbows because of the color wheel. The light bulb needs periodic replacement. Image becomes dim if you look at the screen from an angle. Not as thin as plasma and LCD
Advanages Less expensive than plasma or LCD sets Better picture quality
Color is created by passing white light through a rotating color wheel which filters the light into RGB. The pixels are always one of these colors, but the viewer's eyes blend the different colors together.
DLP sets use mirrors to create an image. The number of mirrors corresponds to the number of pixels. It converts an interlacing image into a progressive one and adjusts the size, shape and color of the image. The mirrors tilt forward and backward to make the image which is then passed through a lens and onto the screen.
Cost Anywhere from $1000 to $5000.
