Confessions of A Shopholic Sophie Kinsella

The Hilarious 'Must-Have Bestseller!

Plot This story is about an average 25 year old girl - Her name is Becky Bloomwood. She is a girl with a big heart and big dreams but one enormous weakness... SHE'S A TOTAL SHOPAHOLIC! Constantly, she is buying unnecessary items with her credit cards - and somehow she never pays her bills... She is employed to a magazine called Successful Saving where she is supposed to give advice on how to save! Funnily enough, Becky can't seem to be able organise her OWN expenses.. Soon enough, these bills add up... and she's in trouble! And of course, don't forget to mention her kind flatmate, Suze (who's just a little whacky) and the snobby head of Brandon Communications - Luke... Becky is in for a wild ride! This is a book full of friendship, love, comedy and of course SHOPPING :) ------- 'Too good to pass up' - USA Today

Style This book was very cleverly written because it always manages to merge in the thoughts Becky has. It is written in first person – this is very important because through this, we are able to see more clearly what kind of person Becky is. The characters in the book are described very well. The thing I like most about Sophie Kinsella’s writing style is that she chooses words that produce comedy but at the same time, we can see the emotions the different characters are experiencing. I don’t really have a favourite moment because Sophie Kinsella manages to keep me one hundred percent engrossed in the book throughout the whole duration and I loved every minute of it! ----- Definitely a well written story :)

The Movie As some of you may know, Confessions of a Shopaholic has become a mega blockbuster! It hit the cinemas on February 5th, 2009. Although this movie is also very funny and enjoyable, DO NOT BE FOOLED! The movie has had slight adaptations to it from the book. The book is definitely in much more detail and you will able to see Becky’s personality in more depth. If you had to chose between the two… pick the book :) (Promise you won’t regret it! =P)

Characters The most important Character would obviously be Becky. Here's a little description about the main characters. --- Becky Bloomwood - Young, pretty and loves shopping. She lacks confidence that she is an expert in finance. Whenever she walks into a shop, she feels a lot happier. At around the middle of the book, Becky realizes that a lot people underestimate her so she decides to make a move and prove all those people wrong! It's obvious that throughout the book, Becky's basically on a emotional rollercoaster. Relationships are also developed but most importantly, Becky begins to learn :) --- Suze - Suze is Becky's flatmate as well as Becky's best friend. She is similiar to Becky because they both love to shop! However, there is a BIG difference between them - Suze's family is quite rich and somehow her parents still give her *pocket money*. This way, Suze can afford anything she wants anytime... (unfair, we know!) Fortunately, Suze is a really down-to-earth person. Throughout the whole book, she always offers to help Becky with her *money problems* and never makes her pay the whole rent for their apartment. Also, we can see her care for Becky constantly. Definitely a lovable person :) --- Luke - Luze Brandon plays a very important role in this story. He is the head of Brandon Communications and is known as one of the biggest multi-millionaires. As an added bonus, in the book he is described as quite *handsome and charming*. However... at first from Becky's point of view, he seema intimidating and snobby. Luckily, this gradually changes throughout the book and a frenemy/love relationship occurs? Luke is a very interesting character because from the public's eye, he seems very stuck-up and snotty but as the story progresses, we see a much nicer side of him. :) --- There are a lot more characters that get introduced throughout the story but these are basically the main ones. To name a few more, we have Phillip (Becky's annoying boss), Tarquin (Suze's friend and Becky's love fling for a while *note* He is a multi-millionaire), Becky's parents (who Becky somehow always has to lie to), Janice and Martin (the couple Becky helps...) and Derek Smeath (the bank manager who just can't stop chasing Becky with her never-ending bills). There is a HUGE variety of personalities in there. :)

Series Confessions of a shopaholic has become a big hit - but Sophie Kinsella hasn’t stopped just yet. Becky Bloomwoods’ story seems to have become a big series. There is Shopaholic takes Manhattan, Shopaholic ties the knot, Shopaholic & Sister and Shopholic & Baby! These are all very well known books...However, although I haven’t read any of them yet, I’m pretty sure I will enjoy them just as much since I will be able to connect once again with Becky’s fun personality and quirky behavior :) --- *Can't wait to get my hands on those books!*

My Opinion/General There are a lot of reasons why I love this book. One obvious one is that it was a really fun book to read! However, through this book I have also learnt a bit more about self-control. Clearly, from Becky’s example I’m definitely going to shop a little less now :P (hence the term shopaholic) Another life lesson I’ve learnt is that you should always learn from your mistakes and not be afraid to try something new. My favourite thing about the book is the characters. They all are very different as well as special in their own ways. Becky was a really interesting person to read about. She was a little crazy but I could still see her kindness. Sophie Kinsella is very talented to be able to help us (the readers) connect with these characters just through her words. In future, I would definitely like to read more of her books! I would recommend this to girls around 13-18 years old. I think that a lot of us can relate to it as well as enjoy the book! It has definitely become one of my FAVOURITE books now :)

Hey Tiff! You did an awesome job on your glog. I think you put alot of hard work and effort into this. You also had a really descriptive book review. Ahhh! You make me want to read AND watch this book/movie! Its fantastic! I like the way how you put pictures of different shopaholic books.
