During the 1960s African Americans were fighting for thier rights. In 1963 over 250,000 people joined in Washington D. C. for the march On Washington.
The purpose of joining in D. C. was to have a peaceful demonstration to persuade the congress to pass a bill. The marchers walked from the Washington monument then to the Lincoln memorial where they listened to speakers and the leaders of the civil rights movement speak.. This is where Martin Luther King delivered his famouse ''I Have A Dream'' speech.
''Until the dogs stop biting us in the south and the rats stop biting us in the north'' -James Farmer
