Hi, I'm Tim and I'm currenlty a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) at a large primary school on the Norfolk Coast. I completed my PGCE at the University of East Anglia and have already written a book!
I firmly believe in embedding technology in all teaching and learning and believe when used appropriately that it can make a real difference. I am also passionate about cross curricular work and have been lucky enough to take part in the fantastic National Galleries cultural placement scheme, which focused on using art as the springboard for a creative, cross curricular curriculum.
Wehn I started this blog in Januray 2010, I was unsure of the reaction I would get espcially from tutors at university. I therefore deicded to start this blog under a pseudonym- Tom Henzley. However the pseudonym quickly became hard to keep up, espcially to those who knew me. The reaction from the unversity and everyone who knew me was very positive so I have started to drop the pseudonym! However, since I have become 'established' online/twitter etc I will be keeping (for now atleast!) Tom Henzley as my online 'identity'.
Who am I??
During my law degree I was involved in a wide range of voluntary work., which included setting up a new project (UEA Streetlaw) working in schools. and work both locally and nationally with Nightline.. Throuhgout all of my voluntary work I tried to use ICT to it's fullest potential to make a real difference. As a result of all this I was named the ' 2008 UK Higher Education Student volunteer of the year. I try to use the skills and expereince I gained though my voluntary work in my teaching and I still like to volunteer!
Even more history...
A quick introduction
Tom Who?
Me as a trainee / teacher
I blog about a variety of things. Most of what I write is aimed at giving an insight into the experience of a trainee (and hopefully then NQT!) I also blog substantial amounts about my experience of using technology, images and cross curricular approaches in my teaching. I hope this blog is an interesting read to a wide variety of people- whether you are a fellow trainee, teacher, head teacher, prospective teacher of someone else interested in education! I always take care to ensure that no individual children can be indentified from my blog posts!
I'd Love to hear from you- feel free to comment on my posts, follow me on twitter (@tomhenzley) or send me an e-mail tom@classroomtales.com
What I blog...
Before I embarked on my PGCE i spent 3 years as a law student- emerging with a LLB in law. However I quickly decided law was not for me, and that I enjoyed most my voluntary work with children.- after lots of varied expereinces in schools, I deicded to take the plunge and apply for the PGCE- and I haven't looked back since!
A bit of history...
In August 2010 I self published my first book- the PGCE Survival Guide.. (more info on www..pgceguide.com ) I am looking to edit/write further, and am already involved in a couple of porjects! The PGCE Survival Guide has attracted signficant press interest and has been read by over 7,,000 people to date. The Book is unique- it is 'crowd sourced' and contains over 250 tips sent in via twitter.
