Pure sunlight or darkness?
Question Do plants grow better in Sunlight or Darkness?
Research By definition, a plant is a living thing that produces its own food through photosynthesis. This process uses carbon dioxide and water. Trapping light from the Sun, plants are able to change sunlight’s energy into useable chemical energy. - NASA
Materials - Five cups - Five bean seeds - A box - Aluminum Foil - A dark closet - A sunny place - Tape
Hypothisis I think the one in the sunlight will grow better because, plants need light to grow.
Results My results were that in order to see growth I would have needed a longer period of time. However, according to the measure of the roots, they both would have sprouted.
Procedure I filled my cups with dirt and then made a small hole and stuck my bean in there. Then I taped Aluminum Foil in my box. Next, I put two plants in front of a sunlit window and three in the box that was put in a dark closet. Everyday I watered each of the plants 1 teaspoon. After five days I took them out of the dirt. to see how the big the roots had grown.
Conclusion I was surprised to learn that plant can still sprout without direct sunlight. However, based on research they would need the sun to continue growing once theypoke through the ground.
