Stanza: A number of lines creating one unit of a poem.
Words used in poetry form.
Accent: It refers to the stressed portion of a word.
Refrain: A refrain is the Stanza that repeats in the poem. You will see this in songs it is called a chorus in songs.
Meter: It is the basic rythmic structure of a verse.
Couplet: A couplet is a pair of lines of meter in poetry.
Blank verse: It is a type of poetry that has a regular meter, but no ryhming.
Speaker: A speaker is the person in the poem refering to his or her self. It doesn't always have to be the author.
Consonance is the repetition, at close intervals, of the final consonants of accented syllables or important words, especially at the ends of words.
Alliteration: When 2 or more words in a poem begin with the same letter or sound.
Theme: Is the idea continously going throughout the story.
Parallelism: It is the way of ryhming sentences
Quatrain: It is a poem with 4 lines. It is a very popular kind of poetry.
Connotation: Connotation is a word that suggests beyond it's basic definition.
Denotation: It is the basic definition of a word.
Form: It is the physical structure of a poem, their lines and their sanzas etc.
Irony: It is the difference between the way something appears and what is really true.
Mood: The way someone feels. I they are angry or sad. You can also tell by the intensity of their voice.
End Rhyme: It is a rhyme that occurs in the last syllables of verses.
Tone: The poets attitude toward the subject. Bitter, pitiful etc.
Poetry: A lot of people have definitons of poetry here is mine it is your feelings expressed through rhyming, and writing.
Personification: Making inanimate objects talk and do human characteristics.
Imagery: It is the pictures you see in your mind when you are reading a book.
Metaphor: It is when you compare and contrast 2 nouns to each other.
Internal rhyme: is rhyme that occurs in a single line of verse.
Repetition: It is words that repeat throughout the poem or stanza.
Near Rhyme: This is where the words sound the same but do not ryhme perfectly.
Free verse: A poem that doesn't rhyme or have a regular meter.
Assonance: It is a sound that is difficult to pronounce in a poem.
Rhyme Scheme: It is the pattern of rhyme between lines of a poem. Example: Bid me to weep, and I will weep While I have eyes to see; And having none, and yet I will keep A heart to weep for thee. By: Robert Herrick
