Stage 1 Hero lives an ordinary life unaware of what is to come Santiago hasn't caught a fish in 84 days he is poor and he heads out unaware today is the day he will catch the big one

Stage 6 The Return Home hero is often changed phisically or mentally or both Santiago comes back and the whole fish is eaten but the other fisherman know the struggle he went through

Stage 4 Trials and testing hero is giving almost supernatural powers to endure Santigo holds the line for many days eating only dolphin and two flying fish and only gettinga tiny bit of sleep

Stage 5 Hero enters the final cave and fights the hardest battle or part of the battle. Satiago brings the fish in over a long period of time and kills it then he fends off sharks

Stage 3 Initiation Facing the unknown hero enter a strange and dagerous world He heads out into the deep waters hoping for the big one.

Stage 2 Departure Hero called to adventure, often reluctant to go but ultimatly accepts the challenge Santiago goes out to sea and put his best bait down at the deepest line
