The Industrial Revolution: This was progress for all the rich white Americans but for the African Americans it just meant more pain and slavery all thanks to the new invention called the cotton gin which was made to separate the cotton from the seed much faster than ever before.
Cotton became the main profit making product in the early American economy . Since it was making major profits that everyone gained from except slaves, everyone began to grow it. They needed more room to grow cotton so the only avalible option was to head west and drag their slaves along with them.
The Industrial revolution was the era of Jasksonian Democracy or the American dream
The era of Jacksonian Democracy was also called the era of the Americna dream because of all the new opportunity that was avalible to be taken. The average Americans were able to move west maybe with some slaves and start cotton plantations to make a huge profit.
Progress has different meanings for different people. And for people of African descent, the cotton gin was not progress. It was a further entrenchment of enslavement. And for African Americans, the Industrial Revolution, those technological advances in the textile industry, did not mean progress. It meant slavery. So we have to understand that during this period, what was progress for white people was enslavement and further degradation for African Americans. - Margaret Washington(historian)
There was a greater growing percentage of slaves during the Industrial Revolution in the west because many were forced to march there with their owners to work on cotton plantations that their owners would establish.
