Bittersweet World Ashlee Simpson
Ashlee Simpson has an edgier pop sound on this album. I think Ashlee got the title right with this CD, bittersweet. It definitely had its highs along with its lows. The Bad News: Some of the lyrics on Bittersweet World are not as encouraging as I had hoped. The F bomb is dropped in a couple of songs. In the track Boys, Ashlee talks about being a tease. As the title suggests, Rule Breaker encourages some not-so-good behavior. Ashlee also sings about sleeping with her ex boyfriend in Little Miss Obsessive with lyrics like, That side of your bed is still mine, and I guess we're really over, but come over, I'm not over it. The Good News: In the song Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya), Ashlee demands respect and makes it known that she won't change who she is for someone else. The title track to the album, Bittersweet World, also encourages people to be themselves. Ashlee says no to a boy who tries to go to far in Boys. Hot Stuff makes the point that it is better to dress modestly. Ragdoll is about a girl who finally stands up to her boyfriend after being used for too long. I love the musical sound of this album. The songs are catchy, but can be very repetitive. Overall, I give this album 2 stars.
