The Assasination
Dr. Martin Luther King, leader of the American Civil Rights Movement, was assassinated on the 4th of April, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, while lending support to a sanitation workers' strike. He was shot by James Earl Ray at approximately 7:05pm. James Earl Ray's bullet hit Martin Luther King as he was standing on his balcony at the Lorraine Motel. Martin died approximately an hour later.
