Hercules and the Hydra
Pollaiuolo
Represented here is a ferocious fight between the hero, Hercules, and the many headed monster, the hydra. Antonio del Pollaiuolo worked during a time when many studies of anatomy were being made, so he paints the human body very realistically. The way the body moves is observed in this painting in great detail. The expression on Hercules’ face is one of sure victory. Behind him, a river flows thru a brown and green landscape with a blue sky above.
Painting found in Uffizi, Florecne
