About the Philippines' Land
About 10 million hectares of land are devoted to agriculture., out of 30 million hectares of land. These pieces of arable land are spread out among the islands. There are three types of land in the Philippines: wet, moist, and dry. The moist zone is the most favorable area for growing the Philippines' fruits. The distribution of Filipino land can be seen in the graph to the left.
Abaca
Abaca is a plant with tough fibers and is sometimes called Manila hemp, Cebu hemp, and Davao hemp. However, it is not related to the drug hemp. This fiber resists saltwater very well, so it can be used to make strong ropes that can be submerged underwater. It is also used to make paper, such as Manila envelopes. The Philippines was the original producer and is also the highest producer of abaca in the world.
