Legionellosis
Legionellosis is an infectuous disease caused by a bacteria known as Legionella. Legionellosis is considered a pathogen of the respiratory tract. It most commonly takes one of two forms: Legionnaire's Disease or Pontaic Fever.
Symptoms
Legionnaires Disease- A more severe form of the disease that can lead to pneumonia. Fever, chills, dry coughing, and more extreme cases have muscle aches, headaches, tiredness, loss of appetite and coordination, and diarrhia and vomiting.
Pontiac Fever- Similar to Legionaires Disease, only less extreme and severe and without the possibility of pneumonia in the future. Fevers and aches are still very common.
Legionellis infections most frequently occur when one inhales aerosol. Aerosol in the air is a common occurance due to machinery operating with water such as hot water systems, showers, fountains, humidifiers, and ice making machines. The most common treatment among all ages is perscribed antibiotics such as levofloxacin and azithromycin. While it is possible to nullify Legionella bacteria using UV rays, that isn't always possible for the public, so just ensuring your water is purified of bacteria will do.
