Radio in the 1920's
-Radio became popular in the 1930's. -In 1923 through 1926, many of sets were homemade. Many were 'crystal' type. -Regular sets had from 2 to 5 tubes, and were all powered by battery. -By September 1926,about half or more radio homes has sets with loud speakers. -The average sets made in 1926 were around $125. Speakers on the other hand, were extra ranging around $50-$100. -By the ned of the 1920's all sets were in cabnets, and all had loud speakers and single dial tuning. -Soap operas were daytime dramas, and most were sponsered by laundry detergents. -Families would all sit around their radios daily to spend time together. -Millions of listeners tuned in to listen to "Dick Tracey" and "Superman". -Shows featuring comedians, Jack Benny, Geaorge Burns, and Gracie Allen also had many listeners.
