There is a little girl and that girl is me and she's been sitting here in her nursery Waiting for you since the age of three. For she was read a story, long ago Of a land where children never grow A land of Pirates and Indian Braves A land of Crocodiles, Mermaids, and Caves. And night after night she waits for you To take her away to that sky so blue. And as she’s waiting there on those dark, dark nights Staring longingly at the stars so bright You can hear her singing a soft little song As she sits so patiently on those nights so long. “Oh I’ll be your Tinker Bell, And you my Peter Pan, And you’ll fly me away to your Neverland. Where I shall never age, but be your lover Save all the Lost Boys and be their mother. Oh Peter, Oh Peter, Why don’t you come? I’ve sat so long before the setting sun. Waiting for you to take me away Watching for you, day after day.” That little girl she sang so long Begging for Peter to hear her song But Peter never came to take her away And that little girl grew older, day by day. And soon that girl, into a woman, grew Until at the age of twenty and two, She gave up her post at that window sill To take up a job at the cotton mill No more did she dream of Peter Pan No longer did she believe in Neverland That little girl, with eyes so wide Had grown up to find they all were lies. Now no more by the window does she stand Except to whisper oh so softly, Good-bye, Good-bye, my dear Neverland.
Goodbye Neverland
