In this book Sabriel finds out that her father is trapped beyond the sixth gate of death. She sets out to her father's house in the Old Kingdom, armed with only her father's charter marked sword & the nine bells of the Abhorsen. As she travels there she encounters Dead servants, a Mordicant, & a servant of the Abhorsen named Mogget. Sabriel and Mogget travel by paperwing to the Castle, only to crash-land on an island. On the island Sabriel learns that Mogget is a free magic creature, trapped as a servent in cat form by his charter spelled collar. She and Mogget find a young man whom they called Touchstone. Sabriel, Mogget, & Touchstone travel across the Old Kingdom to reach the Castle, only to find the sworn enemy of the Abhorsens(who goes by the name of Kerrigor), along with an army of Dead, who is supposedly Touchstone's brother. Will Sabriel be able to rescue her father from death? And will the two of them send Kerrigor & his army of Dead beyond the final gate? You'll have to read the book to find out!
Sabriel
By; Garth Nix
THE BELLS OF THE ABHORSEN- Ranna: Ranna is the Sleepbringer. It is considered the most forgiving bell in that nothing terrible happens if its ringer makes an error. Mosrael: Mosrael is the Waker. Its purpose is to call the dead back to Life, with the comprise of throwing the wielder into Death. Kibeth: Kibeth is the Walker. It can give the Dead movement, or force them through the gates of Death. It can however cause the wielder to go where they would not normally. Kibeth is considered a tricky bell that wants to ring of its own accord. Dyrim: Dyrim is the Speaker. Dyrim gives the Dead a voice they may have lost. It can also silence a freely moving tongue. Belgear: Belgaer is the Thinker. It can give a Dead spirit back their memories, and give independent thought, but can just as easily erase it. It is said that necromancers rarely use it because they do not want their servants to be able to think for themselves. Saraneth: Saraneth is the Binder. It is the bell that binds the dead, causing them to move to the wielder's will. Astarael: Astarael is the Weeper. When rung properly, all who hear it are cast far into death- the ringer included.
CHARACTERS- Sabriel: Young girl about 16 years old, she's the 53rd Abhorsen Mogget: An ancient Free Magic construct of unknown origin who appears in the form of a white cat and is bound by a red Charter magic collar to serve the Abhorsen. Touchstone: A prince, son of a former Queen and a nobleman, and is the only remaining heir of the Royal Blood. He was trapped as the wooden figurehead of a ceremonial boat for two hundred years by the Abhorsen of that time in order to save him (and his Blood) from death. Kerrigor: Formerly known as Rogir, or Rogirek. A Greater Dead adept and former member of the Royal Family, who is at odds with the Abhorsens of the past for many years now; previously bound in Death by Sabriel's father, but released once again due to the fact that his body lies safe in Ancelstierre. The name Kerrigor, as is revealed by Touchstone, was a childhood nickname, made up by the royal prince himself. It is derived from his full ceremonial name, Rogirek.
