My ancestors came from the country of Angola, in the Western Coast of Africa.. From what I know, the majority of my Angolan family has lived in in the capitol of the country, Luanda, which was founded in 1575 by the Portuguese. My great Angolan relatives married the Portuguese and the culture was passed down through the generations. My great grandfather on my fathers side, Teca Cassumba Senior, migrated further south in Angola with his family and founded a village now known as Cassumba.
My l parents lived through the hardships of the country and grew up in the timre of the Angolan Civil War. They married on December 26, 1988 in Luanda. Since then they had 3 children, my two older brothers and myself, and while my mother was raising my siblings and I, my father was attending the Univeristy in Europe. Then, when I turned two my family moved to Europe to be along side my father as he finished his Masters. After about half a year, my dad got some offers here in the Uited States and we have lived here since and have also added my little sister, Kayla, to the family.
Africans have been coming to the America's since a long time ago. Back in the 16th century, around the time that Europeans were roaming the seas, as were African explorers, and they landed in islands, such as that of the one we know as Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, Africa was being inhabited and colonized by the Europeans.
Over in the Americas, however, Native Americans were being used as slaves to do mining, farming, excetera. Sadly, many of the Natives contracted European illnesses and so in the early 1600's the first ships of African slaves were brought to the America's because they believed that AFricans had some sort of immunity to European diseases.

For many years slave ships were brought in and out of the country, people were stripped of their native names, were abused, and overworked as Africans became slaves in America. That lasted for quite a long time, until slavery was abolished in 1865 and Africans finally gained their freedom to be in this country. From those first Africans future generations were born and led to the generations of African Americans of today.
