The burgulary at the watergate hotel complex grew overnight into the political scandal of the century, eventually leading up to the resignsation of the 37th president of the united states.
The scandal that destroyed a president.
June 1972 five men, all involved in the republican group formed by former FBI and CIA agents, ‘the plumbers’ broke into the Watergate hotel and into the Democratic National Headquarters to bug the telephones. They were caught and connections between them and republicans in office were found. Several white house staff members were fired due to connection to the scandal. Rumors soon surfaced that Nixon himself was involved in the scandal and the pressure to either resign or be fired grew stronger and stronger. August 1974 Nixon gave up his place in office as president of the United States of America.
