Smoking costs the United States over $150 billion annually in health care costs. Kids who smoke experience changes in the lungs and reduced lung growth, and they risk not achieving normal lung function as an adult. Kids who smoke have significant health problems, including cough and phlegm production, decreased physical fitness and unfavorable lipid profile. Cigar smokers are particularly at risk of cancer of the mouth, esophagus, or larynx (voice box); they are 4 to 10 times more likely than nonsmokers to get one of those types of cancer. Smoking is addictive because of the nicotine in the cigarettes.
SMOKING KILLS ! know why? - There are over 4,000 dangerous chemicals in cigarettes, cigars and pipes smoke . Many of these chemicals are cancer-causing (carcinogen). - Tobacco kills about 45,000 Canadians a year. That's more than the total number of deaths from AIDS, car accidents, suicide, murder, fires and accidental poisonings combined.
SMOKING FACTS
"Smoking kills. If you're killed, you've lost a very important part of your life." ~Brooke Shields.
Urea, a chemical compound that is a major component in urine, is used to add “flavor” to cigarettes. YUCK!!!
Nicotine reaches the brain within 10 seconds after smoke is inhaled. It has been found in every part of the body and in breast milk. Scientists claim the average smoker will lose 14 years of their life due to smoking. Even though there is still a chance of having a 'normal' lifespan, don't do it.
