Common Name-ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease
The cause is unknown, however it is found that genetics are a part of 5-10% of cases of ALS. Some evidence suggests that the disease may be triggered by exposure to heavy metals, animal hides, or fertilizers but this has not yet been proven.
Symptoms are that muslces waste away due to deterioration of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord which control voluntary muscle movement. The only nerve cells affected are the lower motor neurons, which control a wide range of things like movement of your limbs, swallowing and even some aspects of breathing.
There is no treatment for ALS but the patient is never in any pain even in the last stages of ALS. This diesease does not affect the senses or thinking patterns.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
This diesease is incurable and a person can expect to live 2-5 years after being diagnosed.
