Benito Mussolini
Benito Mussolini was born in Dovia di Predappio, a small town in the province of Forl in Emilia-Romagna on July 29, 1883 and died on April 28, 1945. Mussolini was an Italian politicial who led the National Fascist Army or, ''the Blackshirts.'' In 1922, he became the prime minister of Italy and began using the title, ''II Duce'' by 1925. He was also one of the founders of Italian Fascism, which included elements such as expansionism, nationalism, social progress, anti-communism, and corporatism. Mussolini also became the supreme military rank of the First Marshal of the Empire along with Vicotry Emmanuel III. Mussolini remained in power until he was replaced in 1943 and for a short period after this until his death, he was the leader of the Italian Social Republic.
The National Fascist Army, typically known as the Blackshirts, was organized by Benito Mussolini. Established in 1919, there were already 200,000 soldiers by the time of Mussolini's March of Rome. Mussolini was involved in many different groups, even including the position of an ally of Italy with Nazi German and Japan in WorldWar II. In September of 1943, Italy signed an armistice with the Allies. The German army began the occupation of Italy and Mussolini was rescued by the German commandos. He became the leader of a new government, but had very little power. As the Allies advanced northwards through Italy, Mussolini fled towards Switzerland. His death came about when he was captured by Italian partisans and shot on 28 April 1945.
